About Us

Symbiosis was founded in 2009 with the goal of improving the social and academic experience for Industrial Ecology students studying at NTNU. This task is our primary focus and includes organizing social events and easing the transitition for newly arriving program students. We also promote awareness of Industrial Ecology by engaging with companies, organizations, and other student groups.

Welcoming New Students

Organizing Events

External Outreach

Symbiosis ensures that all incoming MSc Industrial Ecology students get properly acquainted with life in Trondheim. In addition to the information located on our website, Symbiosis publishes an annual student handbook that outlines what new students can expect upon arrival and how to prepare. This can be found in our “Resources” section.
We create a strong sense of community within IndEcol by organizing a wide range of events for our students. We kick off the year with a welcome week for new students in mid August and we host weekly social events at a local cafe starting in September. We also host “Symbiosis Talks”, which are weekly discussions that bring students together to explore diverse topics that are based on “TED” videos and are relevant to Industrial Ecology. In the past year, we have organized social events including: a ski trip to Sweden, hockey, sledding, cross-country skiing, barbeques, movies, cabin trips, and many cultural celebrations. Check out our “Events” section for the latest event details!
Symbiosis promotes awareness of Industrial Ecology through our external outreach. We build connections with companies and organizations with an environmental focus, as well as with other student groups at NTNU. We hold an annual environmental career day called Miljødagen, and also organize individual company presentations, which aim to help students find environmentally-oriented job opportunities.
